Every product we make begins with a problem in education that deserves a closer look.

We work on it privately until the purpose is clear, the product can stand on its own, and we are ready to be accountable for what it does.

AveroNova began with a question we could not leave alone: if a parent chooses to homeschool their child, how do they know that real learning is taking place?

At first, the answer seemed to be better lessons. But the more closely we looked, the more we understood that lessons were only part of the problem. Families were piecing together several platforms to cover different subjects. Those platforms could show what a child had opened, completed, or answered correctly, but they rarely helped a parent understand what the child had genuinely grasped. Parents were expected to be both teacher and evaluator without being given the clarity that either role requires.

The product did not begin in the form it has today. We considered a broader age range, different subjects, and audiences beyond homeschooling. Each possibility forced us to return to the same questions. Who was this really for? What needed to improve for them? What could not be compromised? Which technology genuinely helped, and what would tell us that the answer was working?

Those questions changed the product. We narrowed the audience to homeschooling families because their need was not occasional homework help; it was a coherent education they could depend on. At the same time, we expanded the academic scope because one more single-subject service would only add to the collection of tools families were already managing. We tested different starting points, changed the curriculum plan, and allowed the work to become more specific as our understanding improved.

What emerged was AveroNova: a personalised STEM learning platform for homeschool students in grades 7 to 9. It builds lessons around the individual learner—their interests, the way they think, and how they respond over time—without changing the academic standard they are expected to reach.

For the student, that means learning that responds to them rather than asking them to fit a fixed lesson. For the parent, it means seeing more than completion. AveroNova helps them understand what their child has grasped, where uncertainty remains, what questions they asked, and where support may be needed.

Technology makes much of this possible, but it is not the point of the product. The point is a student who understands more deeply and a parent who no longer has to guess whether learning happened. That is the outcome against which AveroNova has to be judged.

AveroNova is now a public product with its own identity, its own relationship with families, and a responsibility of its own. It will continue to learn from real use and improve, but it was not made public until it was ready to stand behind what it promised.

It is the first product built by HypaLabs. It will not be the last.
